Guided tour of the Petite-Terre rock

Discover the Rock of Dzaoudzi, an emblematic site of Mayotte, during a guided tour combining nature, history and exceptional landscapes.

The tour starts in the Dzaoudzi mudflat area, where your guide introduces you to the local ecosystem: mangroves, mangroves, typical mudflat species and a wide variety of birds (terns, herons, squacco herds...).

You will then continue with the climb to the Rock, with a reading of the landscapes and reliefs, accompanied by explanations on the geological formation of the site, in particular the tombolo phenomenon, and on the human settlement in Dzaoudzi.

The route then takes you past several emblematic places:

The Maritime School, with a presentation of the ethnomarine history of Mayotte and current maritime education,

The Museum of Mayotte (external presentation), for a contextualization of the heritage and history of the territory,

The old road to the Dzaoudzi Hospital, witness to the urban evolution and daily life of the past,

The Governor's House, symbol of the administrative and colonial history of the Rock.

A break is planned near the old tennis court, a vestige of the site's leisure facilities, before starting the final descent.

The visit ends with a descent to Dzaoudzi beach, offering a panoramic view of Grande-Terre and the lagoon, accompanied by explanations on the strategic role of the Rock, its urbanization and its inhabitants.
